To be totally honest, I didn’t know how diverse of a type style this was until hearing David’s talk! Reverse stress is the process of taking what we know about type and simply, flipping it. Where there used to be stress on the ascenders is now placed on the crossbars, in a gist. The most recognizable use of this type style is seen in the old western typefaces on ‘wanted’ posters. However, David’s knowledge on the style is so vast, it is best explained through his own words on his blog (which is also a lovely summary of his presentation).
David has recently relocated from the snowy winters of the North East to Venice Beach, CA to expand the digital type studio, the Font Bureau.
